International Tug & OSV, incorporating Salvage News

International Tug & OSV, incorporating Salvage News (IT&O) is published by the ABR Company Ltd which, under the auspices of chairman Allan Brunton-Reed, has for many years published a wide variety of nautical books and magazines and organised international conferences and exhibitions. The company maintains on a daily basis an 11,000+ database of people around the world who are involved in the tug, towing, salvage and offshore industries in what currently amounts to 116 countries. This database is used for the distribution of the bi-monthly International Tug & OSV as well as the annual Tug & OSV Review and regular supplements. It is also used for marketing the highly successful ITS Conventions and Tugnology Conferences. The company also stocks a wide range of publications related to the tug, towing, salvage and OSV business which are available through the ITS Book Club.

For professionals

International Tug & OSV, incorporating Salvage News, formerly known as International Tug & Salvage, has entered its 17th year of publication and is unrivalled as the leading specialist magazine for all those involved in the international tug, towage, salvage and OSV industries. Readers include tug and OSV owners, builders and operators, towage companies and salvors, together with maritime professionals such as naval architects, engineers and marine lawyers. It is a high quality, full-colour publication with clear text, attractively laid out pages, a good selection of photographs and a relaxed style, providing a quick and easy source of information. Contributions from readers are warmly welcomed. Editor Dawn Gorman has been with the ABR Company for five years and had co-chaired ITS and Tugnology conferences. Former editor Andy Smith is now consultant editor, having been with the publication continuously since its launch. Other contributors include professionals from within the industry.

Editorial philosophy

The aim of IT&O is to provide an overview of the entire industry – covering the activities of the salvage and towage operators, the vessels used, the yards that build them, the specialist skills involved and the equipment employed. Careful attention is given to ensuring that the content of each issue is evenly balanced to give every reader something of interest.

Editorial content

Uniquely dedicated to tugs, OSV and salvage matters, regular features form the core of each issue. These are backed up by special features, some of which are planned in advance while others are included to meet the pace of development. Coverage is also given to AHTS and ROV vessels, which are often used in salvage, wreck removal and ETV operations.

Regular features

A substantial International News section covers not only topical incidents and developments, but reviews important events of recent months. This is where contracts are announced, important towage stories are described, company takeovers are considered and new appointments are detailed.

Every issue contains a batch of the latest New Orders, to keep readers up-to-date with who is doing what, and where. The vessels in question may subsequently be described in detail by consultant editor Andy Smith in Tug Deliveries, which gives a technical description of each vessel accompanied by a colour photograph.

Features include At The Helm, which is a double-page interview with a key figure in the industry about their career and personal opinions on their particular corner of the marine industry, both in terms of current issues and how they see things evolving in the future. Other leading industry figures are interviewed in connection with news stories or significant company developments.

Another regular feature is On The Bridge, which considers new wheelhouse developments, in particular the electronics as applicable to both tugs and OSVs, while Products & Services rounds up all that is new to the market. Many editions include Propulsion and Deck Machinery sections, while most issues have a feature giving attention to a particular region of the world, such as North America, Europe and the Middle East. Specialist areas such as Diving & Underwater Services, Fire-Fighting, Coatings and Dynamic Positioning are also given special focus, while the important environmental issues which are re-shaping the tug, salvage and OSV world are considered in depth. Safety and training are also key areas of focus, in particular with reference to the new vessels being developed and the hi-tech equipment which all vessels now have on board. Legal and classification issues and their implications for the industry are given careful consideration. Conference and exhibition news is granted special attention and papers by experts on virtually any topic relevant to the industry are reproduced when of sufficiently broad appeal.
